LESSON PLAN

NAME             :

LEVEL:
High Elementary
DATE :

Length of Time:
30 minutes

Class Profile:

Based on my last observation, I may say that the class consists of not more than 22 young adult learners. They are a High Elementary level and students of first grade of junior high school and aged between 11 and 14. Being students of junior high school, they seem to be highly motivated in participating in this program and enthusiastic in taking a part in classroom tasks.
Some of them tend to be active and pay more attention to the teacher, they are strong at speaking, confident, active in participating in every activity, speak fluently and have good pronunciation.
Few of them are relatively quite. The rest of them also have a good knowledge in English and they would be more active when they are in pair or group work.
In general, most students seem to have high motivation and like activities that require them to move away from their seat. Also, I notice that they like competitions.

Lesson Rationale/Fit:

The context of this 1 hour session, in this second week, is talking about Animal. As this is the first 30 minutes lesson I will try to offer an introduction activity by giving pictures connected to the vocabulary about animals. Furthermore, I'd like to build on their knowledge through comparing activities by exposing the students to compare two pictures of animals which are related to that topic. This time, I will try to give students some practices, so they will produce much the target language in the stage of presentation, practice and production. I will also focus on vocabulary to prepare them in the fluency speaking activities. Thus, the students will feel more comfortable with this.

Main aims (language/skills):
  • To extend students understanding and to improve their ability in reading and writing through writing essay of comparison about two animals.

Subsidiary aims (language/skills):
  • To develop students’ ability in reading and speaking through writing essay of comparison about two animals.
  •  To develop and revise student's vocabulary and also the fluency in using them in oral practice.

Personal aims:
  • I will try to invite as much participation as possibleI will try to make my instructions understandable either by giving example or showing the pictures
  • I will try my best not to be nervous and enjoy the teaching process.
  • To create challenging learning tasks to motivate students in learning the target language.

Expected learner outcomes:

By the end of the lesson students will have more confidence and be better able to understand information from a text or pictures and practice using the vocabulary of comparison about animals with accuracy and fluency.

Evidence:

If students are able to demonstrate their ability in understanding information from the pictures about animals and can compare two animals using the vocabulary given in proper context with some accuracy in reading and speaking activities, I think my aim will have been achieved.

Anticipated student problems (language/tasks/skills):
  • Students may have problems with some new vocabulary
  • Elicited the picture related to topic, students may not mention the words relating animals.

Solutions:

  • I will give clearer context and explain them further when they need.

    • I will elicit students to answer their questions by themselves.
